I swear, I love the Code Geass fandom to pieces. So many talented and smart people in the same place.

This started as a ficlet and now it's an arc which has eaten my life completely. Too pity it seems I enjoy writing it much more than people enjoy reading it, but that’s okay. :-) I really get pleasure on writing, sharing and being creative. See? I'm all stable and mature. :-) . And really nice people have been reading it thanks to [ profile] kill_me_faster's excellent advice.

Anyway, I must shamelessly confess it has been a loooonnnng time since I've enjoyed writing a fic so much. So I've decided to make a post to give some order to this and get a name for my CG arc, which will probably sprout some more ficlets until new canon turns them completely outdated.

Arc Title: The House of Mirrors
author: G.
fandom: Code Geass
Pairing: Suzaku/Lelouch

Stage 1: The Emperor's Waltz
Stage 2: The Path of Carnage
Stage 3: The Lady of the Lake
Stage 4: The Book of Hours
Epilogue:The Palace of Silence

Vaguely inspired on Kraftwerk’s The Hall of Mirrors , which I keep associating with the whole Suzalulu dynamic. Go figure! :D

Enjoy. If you like it, don’t be shy and comment.

1. Ho-lee shit.

2. This is completely amazing. I'm just pissed that [ profile] kill_me_faster didn't rec this to me before.

3. Okay. The meat of it.

I just can't get over how well-done this fic is. The characterizations are absolutely breathtaking - C.C.'s playfulness when she appears, particularly in the first part where you're talking about her dancing, the ghost of Nunnally who is, in the end, every bit as selfless as Lelouch but in her own way, the Emperor being proud that one of his offspring was strong enough to kill him, and Suzaku, his fury and bitterness slowly slipping away to become something sweeter.

And Lelouch most of all. Normally, I'm leery of fics involving insanity, because they characterization often comes down to "A boogadah boogadah I'm cuh-razee" but this one...Sure, Lelouch has gone insane, is unable to remember things, places high importance on the insignificant. But the fact that he's retained his brilliance, and the fact that he's still as logical as before, and still has his same old voice (it just speaks nonsense now), and the fact that he's so terribly haunted still - all of that is very IC and very, very touching.

Your pacing was great, your style perfect. I loved the way you'd formatted it - not quite linear, broken up into sections of thought, which reflect quite well Lelouch's inability to focus on something for more than any great length of time. And the omission of information that's either revealed later or not at all, leaving the reader to fill in the gaps...Perfect.

Um, let's see, something that isn't just me slavering over this. Occasionally, you slipped into slightly more slang-y speech that was a little jarring - Suzaku describing something as having "sucked," Lulu talking about "angsting," that struck me as being a little wrong. But that's a nitpick ahoy and really quite thoroughly inconsequential.

Overall? My heart is just about breaking with love for this. Incredibly, incredibly well-done.

I must thank [ profile] kill_me_faster for pimpering me so effectively. :D

What can I say? This is probably the best review in my whole life. :-) I was thrilled by everything you said, especially your comments on Lelouch because 1) you've got the best Lelouch's voice I've ever read; 2) It's really hard to write an insane Lelouch, and I was not sure I was doing it right. You've got the make him say and do things he wouldn't in his right mind, but at the same time you must make him feel IC enough in his complete OOCness. I'm glad I did it good enough. I'm also glad the lack of linearity was not completely confusing to the reader.

lol. The use of slang in the two exemples you gave me were, in fact, intended as ironic comments on Suzaku's maturity. On the first, he says it *sucks* to be *mature* and on the second Lelouch is basically telling him to stop mopping like a teenager. BUT English is far from being my first language, so it's very likely I went too far there, especially for using the same device on two different voices. I promise I'll be a good girl and try to avoid it next time. :D

But most of all, I'd like to thank you very much for the review. It really made me all happy and fuzzy inside. As I said, I'm having too much fun writing it to stop, but it feels great to know other people are enjoying it too.

Not your first language...? Wow. But you - you write so well. What are you, some kind of crazy genius? (What is your first language, BTW?)

I get what you were trying to do now with the slang - and well-done, that's very clever. I guess "sucked" is a good choice then, since it is really juvenile. "Angsting," I think, is a bit trickier, just because the sense of the word that people like us - internet people - use, of being sort of brooding and emo and miserable, isn't the original meaning of the word. So I think that in the alternate timeline of the CG world, it wouldn't have that meaning...

...but jeez, that's so minor it's actually kind of funny. I'M A LINGUISTICS MINOR, CAN YOU TELL?

I just hope that you continue this. Because it's too awesome and well-written and true to all the characters and interesting and, despite the darkness of it, too sweet to end. ;__;

lol. Not in the Lloyd sense of the expression, I'm afraid. And my first is Portuguese. I just read a lot.

A linguistics minor! I would never guess. :-D You are right about "angsting", of course. Also, Lelouch being Lelouch would go for the original meaning of the word. I will probably change that sooner or later because I'm already angsting about it. :-D

I'm actually working on a Stage 4. I think it will be ready around the beginning of next week if I don't mess things up completely. *keeps fingers crossed*

Once again, thanks a lot for all the excellent feedback!

I have read your house of mirrors arc a total of 4 times. You are a very talented writer. I enjoyed reading it over and over again. I am a huge suzaku/Lulu fan. You have written and described their relationship exactly as i have imagined it. I cant describe how lovely this arc is.

I just finished reading this and sincerely wish I had found it earlier. So beautiful, you took the best bits out of the canon and developed them in ways I was just craving to see. I love you how expressed the complexities of their relationship and both Suzaku and Lelouch as individuals. I feel like I learned a lot about them from your ideas, things I hadn't picked up on before but just makes me appreciate them more. I'm not really a big reader, but this was truly epic and deserves a second read-through. I'm glad to have had the pleasure of discovering it.

I stumbled upon this when I was just recently looking for a fanfiction to read about this pairing. Honestly, I absolutely love it. Words can't express how much I'm going "Whoa" and jaw-dropping in the process.

;A; It's just so wonderful. The both of them and how they both work with each other in every possible way. Thank you for writing this. I truly enjoy reading it.
